The winners of the dance competition at the last edition of the Bia So Mengong festival took their first steps on one of our country’s most prestigious stages today, at the 4th bloggers’ summit, thanks to the active lobbying of The Belinga Foundation.
You can see it in their eyes, intimidated by the solemnity of this veritable temple of culture; walking through the corridors where some of the biggest names on the Cameroonian and international scene have walked, crossing paths with some of the country’s most eminent personalities, such as the French ambassador, the director of the IFC or the cultural advisor to the French embassy. They are the 14 dancers from the Mengane de Mengong traditional dance troupe, winners of the traditional dance competition at the last edition of the Bia so Mengong festival, who are discovering the big leagues with a live performance at the Yaoundé French Institute.
Faithful to its vision of detecting and promoting local talent, The Belinga Foundation, unlike most cultural promoters, has set out to promote the next edition of the festival, offering as much exposure as possible to the winners of the last edition.
And it’s fair to say that Bekale Zouam Martine’s band made a big impression on the audience, who applauded them warmly.
Once their performance was over, our artists, with stars in their eyes, headed back to Mengong to continue their preparations for the festival.
Let’s hope that this wonderful adventure, which, according to the senior staff of The Belinga Foundation, is just the beginning, will encourage all future competitors to be much more serious in their work.
