/ Main Activity

Evening in the Village

The Belinga Foundation’s signature event, this meeting celebrates oral tradition, storytelling, and traditional music beneath the palaver tree

The ‘Evening in the Village’ initiative reflects the commitment of the THE BELINGA FOUNDATION to promote the preservation and enhancement of local heritage, which stand as major challenges for maintaining community identity. In other words, it seeks to revive, reconstruct, and restore ancestral practices in a context shaped by globalization ideologies, lifestyle uniformity, the internet, and the multiple effects of social networks—where the younger generation, having lost its bearings in a modern world, is disconnected from African ancestral values such as respect for elders, solidarity, mutual aid, and hospitality.

Thus, the initiative aims first to rekindle collective memory, transmitting ancestral knowledge and traditions from elders and patriarchs to younger generations. It also seeks to provide a space for exchange and conviviality for local populations, and to foster a process of social and cultural revitalization within the community. This culture, essential to the personal development of young people, deserves to be internalized and preserved; a mission that THE BELINGA FOUNDATION has set for itself.
