The penultimate day of the Bia so Mengong festival has as always, a rich program of
activities.
On the soccer front, the action was a little more subdued, with only two matches
on the program,
one in men’s soccer and one in men’s soccer, all vying for third place.
On the cultural side,
however, the program was buzzing with two major events : the finals
of the traditional dance competition and
the appearance on the festival stage of
Joël Lafleur, the man with the electric pants.
As for the festival-goers, they’re well aware that the party will soon be over,
and they don’t
intend to waste a single minute, making the most of every happy moment. As always, they
stormed the food
and drink stalls.
The day went on until just before 6 p.m., when the finals of the traditional dance competition
got underway,
with four dance groups on the starting line-up : Abok Bekon from Endam,
Mengan from Koungoulou, Otulbaka and Femmes Dynamique
from Doungou. After an hour
and a half of entertainment, the group Otulbaka was unanimously declared the winner by the
jury,
ahead of Femmes Dynamique and Mengan from Koungoulou.
The evening continued with a full-scale show by Joël Lafleur,
author of the hit song
« Mimbong mi mane i bé ». He transported the Mengong audience into another dimension
of sound and decibels.
