As we’ve already said more than once, the theme of the 2024 edition of the Bia so Mengong festival is « Unity and Diversity ». How better to mark this unity in diversity than by inviting other ethnic groups to come and showcase their culture and enable the people of Mengong to discover other horizons, other cultures and other ways of doing things ?

With this in mind, a traditional Bassa dance group, « Makoune », comes to Mengong. On the other hand, the festival remains true to its vision of offering festival-goers a wide range of sensations and activities to suit every taste. The day is also marked by the launch of the songo tournament, which is particularly popular this year. On the starting line are some forty players, all hoping to steal the trophy from last year’s champion Ondja’a Patrick.

But most of the day is devoted to soccer. Excitement is running high as this is the final day of the first round. While some teams have already qualified, others will have to fight hard to continue their adventure. The day’s results are as follows. Bayern 1 & Tikary 2 Fortissimo 6 & Foudre 1 Tekelos 1 & Fek ne fini 3 Ossame 1 & As Royal 0. Eight teams packed their bags at the end of the day, while sixteen continued their adventure : Etondo FC Rocher de Yem, Kpwatolo FC de Mekamevom ,Ossame FC de Koungoulou, Fortissimo FC de Mengong , RFA d’Abiete, Reims de Nkoleteto, Deux zéro de Mengong , PEGAZE de Nnemeyong Bayern de Nkolewon, Tikari d’Ebolobola, Mengong Yat FC, AS-JERED USA d’Abiete, Feck Ne Fii and National FC de Ngoulemakong.

This first part of the day, as we’ve said, is mainly marked by the arrival in Mengong of the « Makoune » dance group representing the coastal peoples. They are the second cultural group to perform at the Bia so Mengong festival, after the Manguissa dance group. They are warmly applauded by the public at the COCAM stadium, where they perform at half-time of the match between Tekelos and FEK NE FI. They then perform at the festival village, where they are also warmly acclaimed. The day ends with a show put on by local artists .

The performance by McCarthy, a renowned dancer from the county, was particularly well received. Same for the performance by the little girls from the modern dance group « Les Mignonnes », discovered at the first edition of the festival and who have grown up with it, was also particularly well received.
